When repairs or replacement of parts are necessary, I will use original vintage parts if at all possible, with the exception of the wiring/sockets.

How important is this paper to your lamp socket?
VERY IMPORTANT !
Picture on left shows a very old brital paper liner for a socket. This paper alone is extremely valuable for safety. It separates the electrical current from metals. The paper will turn dark brown or black at some point. When this colour occurs, its time change the socket.
